National Night Out and Crime Prevention Tips

National Night Out is on Tuesday, August 7, and provides a great opportunity to learn about staying safe and preventing crime in your community.

The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) helps organize events in neighborhoods nationwide every year. The NATW website states, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.”

For example, the Town of Jupiter and Jupiter Police Department are partnering with Roger Dean Stadium for a free night of baseball, family-friendly activities, and community vendors. You can view the Jupiter event page on Facebook. To find or organize a National Night Out event in your neighborhood, visit https://natw.org/map.

Another great resource is the National Neighborhood Watch (NNW), where you can join together with your neighbors to prevent crime in your community. The NNW website states, “One of the oldest and best known crime prevention concepts in history, Neighborhood Watch was created to unite law enforcement agencies, private organizations, and individual citizens in a massive effort to reduce residential crime.” To find, join, or start a Neighborhood Watch group near you, visit https://nnw.org/find-a-watch-program.
