Equifax data breach settlement: are you eligible for benefits?

In 2017, over 143 million Americans’ personal information was exposed in a data breach at Equifax, one of the three major credit reporting agencies. Hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, and addresses. They also stole credit card numbers from about 209,000 people. For more information, see the Elder Rights Center’s 2017 article about the Equifax data breach.

Now, Equifax has agreed to spend up to $425 million to help people who had their personal information exposed in the 2017 data breach.

If you were affected by the breach, you may qualify for a cash payment, free credit monitoring, or another benefit.
