Press Release - Extraordinary Senior Volunteers Honored at 25th Annual Prime Time Awards Event

West Palm Beach, FL –The Area Agency on Aging’s 25th Annual Prime Time Awards Breakfast held on May 26th at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott celebrated a record number 202 extraordinary senior volunteers.  With 340 guests in attendance, awards were presented in 9 categories.


Nominations for outstanding senior volunteers were received from organizations and individuals throughout Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.  The 9 award categories included: the BMO Private Bank Special Senior Award; MDH Printing & Graphics Foster Grandparent Award; Florida Power & Light Community Service Award; the Calidus Management Volunteer of the Year Award; the Humana Good Neighbor Award; the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Volunteer Award; Shalloway & Shalloway Elder Advocate Award; The Palm Beach Post School Volunteer Award; and, the WellMed SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Volunteer Award.


Michael J. Dyer, Managing Director with BMO Private Bank and Chair of Your Aging & Disability Resource Center Foundation presented the very first BMO Private Bank Special Senior Award to Judith Branham, an extraordinary volunteer with The Volen Center.


The Calidus Management Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Thomas Arth for his commitment to mentoring youth in the MODEL Program of the Children’s Home Society.


Dianne Verner presented the Florida Power & Light Company Community Service Award to Chet Zientek whose long term commitment to volunteer activities has enabled him to enrich the lives of individuals young and old.

The Humana Good Neighbor Award was presented by Humana Market Manager Ken Szilagyi to Eddie Rhodes of Belle Glade for his endless hours and efforts to benefit youth in the Glades area.

Presented by MDH President Travis Stubblefield, the MDH Foster Grandparent Award was awarded to Joanne Winsett, a Foster Grandparent at Wynnebrook Elementary School, who brings her own special sunshine to the kindergarten children.


The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Volunteer Award was presented by Captain Michael Kirschner to Volunteer Major Robert P. Clements who exhibits pride, professionalism and integrity which embody the essence of volunteerism.


The Shalloway & Shalloway Elder Advocate Award was presented by G. Mark Shalloway

to Gordon Broom who advocates enthusiastically as an Alzheimer’s Association Ambassador.


The Palm Beach Post School Volunteer Award was presented by Keely Gideon-Taylor and Dawn Favata to “Grandpa” Steve Rosenbluth who has brought fun and excitement into the classroom and puts 150% into everything he does for the children.


The WellMed SHINE Volunteer Award was presented by Dr. Jamie Huysman to Mary O’Connell of Vero Beach who is a SHINE Counselor at the Health Department in Indian River County for extraordinary dedication to Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders.
